Chair Caning 10th - 11th March 2025
Monday & Tuesday 10-4pm
with Rachael South
Course Information
Over the two days of this course you will learn all 6 weaving stages of the Standard 6-way Chair Caning pattern, first on a sample frame and then continue on to a chair.
You will be introduced to all the necessary materials, tools and techniques for weaving seats with cane.
You will also learn about preparing chairs for caning, including stripping away the old cane and reviving the wooden frame.
The sample frames and all materials will be provided. You will need to source a suitable chair frame for caning.
Rachael South is a third generation chair caner and experienced teacher. She is also the author of a Chair Caning published by Crowood Press.
As with all our workshops, no prior experience is necessary, simply the desire to escape for a couple of days and create something wonderful!
Homemade and, where possible, locally sourced lunch and tea are included.
