Decoupage under glass 23rd - 24th September 2025
Decoupage under glass workshop with Alex Stewart Carter
An introduction to the world of Decoupage under Glass. A technique very different from the well known Decoupage of old seen on trays and lamps and lurking in Grannies attic.
Over two days you will be introduced and guided through the basics of this fascinating craft. You will be taught how to handle, cut and glue the designs, learn about the different papers, paints, glues and varnishes needed to create two pieces to take away. All materials will be provided as well as a choice of simple but beautiful designs so the focus can be getting to grips with the method and application. There is also an element of simple gilding using metal leaf and the variety of ways this too can be used to create something wonderful!
During this workshop you will create (and take away) a stunning bowl and a small hurricane vase. The bowl design can also be double sided, something rarely done in the Decoupage world. The hurricane vase is hugely versatile can be used for candles, as a vase, or a wonderful decorative pot.
As with all our workshops, no prior experience is necessary, simply the desire to escape for a couple of days and create something beautiful.
Homemade and, where possible, locally sourced lunch and tea included. Accommodation available for those travelling from afar.
Timings: 10am - 4pm

ABOUT ALEX
Approximately three decades in the Decorative Arts world has led me through a wonderful maze of careers and gathering of skills. I have been fortunate enough to learn from some true Masters in their field, one of whom happens to be the incomparable Roger Newton! Two decades running my own Picture Framing Studio introduced me to Gilding, Faux Finishes such as marbling and woodgraining along with a variety of other skills.
Moving to the States with my family in 2001 led me to discover Decoupage under Glass, and I became intrigued and soon hooked by the whole effect and never looked back! It is such fun to do and with the endless design possibilities it is a very satisfying craft to learn. I have been practicing this tecnique and building my Studio firstly in the USA and now in the Cotswolds for the last 20 years.
